"beta code" doesn't traditionally mean, "seeing if we can get away with it".

A company I worked with were going to try and pull a forced gender thing on sign up with no "prefer not to say" or whatever. They wouldn't even let me do "other", or "I identify as" or anything like that, so in the end I bargained them down to making it optional. And by "bargained" I mean I was the only coder and had a case of strangely specific amnesia when it came to code changes :P

If you buy 6 or 12 months paid or premium account time you get 2 months or 4 months paid or premium extension. If you have a seed account you can donate the time to any other account.

It does make rather a nice counterpoint to LJ's fail.

(I bought 12 months paid account time for three accounts anonymously last night before the announcement, and they very kindly credited me retroactively so I could donate the time to a random account because they are just that awesome.)
