Well that was not a patch on the opening ceremony, but still enjoyable once the cringe-y parts were out of the way. (George Michael anyone, but god how I love Neil Tennant's voice)

But I just need to say, all the love in the world to Gary Barlow. I wonder if he could feel most of the audience wanting to reach out and give him a hug?

Roll on the Paralympics. (I've been more excited for them, given that I actually know someone taking part)

Paralympics isn't until the 29th, right?

I'm still catching up on the US broadcast, but did the choice of George Michael's song (whether it was for him or by him, I would like to know) make *any* more sense in the UK? Why so inappropriate for the occasion, lyrics?

I'm unreasonably fond of that album, but it certainly wasn't a huge hit single over here, and I have no idea what it did internationally.

I think the song choice was so that the word "freedom" could scroll around the stadium in lights. Apparently he sang a second song with NBC chos not to show us, along with performances by Ray Davies of the Kinks, Kate Bush and the band Muse, so that they could show us that animal sitcom. :\
