Very quickly, (hopefully a more thoughtful review later) as we're off to the Hay Festival now, but

OMG! I'm in love.

I suspect, like more than a few people in my DW circle/ LJ Friendslist, Star Trek got me through some very unhappy teenaged years of being bullied at school. And then just being unhappy. And once TNG came along Wil Wheaton was cute. (What? I was sixteen!)

Last night was a little like coming home. It got to the end and "Space the Final Frontier" and I was sat there with a huge grin on my face. I came out and wanted to go straight back in to watch it again. So, so awesome.

(I recognised that there was a fair amount of Genderfail in it, but I want to dwell on that later.)

Hee!

I thought it was a bit awesome too, and I am a jaded, jaded individual where reboots etc. are concerned.
I agree, there wasn't a lot going on for poor Uhura, but in part I put that down to the finite time they had to cram in the stack of back-stories. And at least when she was getting her dialogue on, it was on a par with Kirk's. :D
My only gripe, and it's not really a 'gripe' and more of a 'why?' was the part played by Winona Ryder which could so easily have been filled by an 'actually' older woman. What was up with that? Very odd.

That movie erases my higher brain functions. There are plot points that make me sputter with derision, the genderfail irks me, and so on - and yet every time I see it, I get more :D :D :D about the whole thing.

So much squee! There were quibbles, there were moments, but my overall feeling is "SQUEE SQUEE SQUEE *frantically writes fic*" :) Glad you liked it!

PS: I also had a crush on Wesley. ^_^

Oh so much agree! I loved it. I am not blind to a couple of faults, but the movie entertained me so much I didn't really worry about them.

Genderfail - yes. Sadly, yes. But other than that, I chalk the other stuff up to WTF!Federation science and practices. The other series and movies had them as well to varying degrees.
