You know, this year I'd really like to post here more than once a year, and although these are memes, well... any post is better than nothing isn't it?

FANDOM

Your main fandom of the year? Probably Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Your favorite film you watched this year? I think The Martian as it's about the only big film I've got to see this year.

Your favorite book read this year? I enjoyed We Are Completely Besides Ourselves, so much more than I expected. It was a book I wished more people I knew had read so I could talk about it with them.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year? Alt J - Every Other Freckle. Over and over and over again.

Your favorite tv show of the year? Bake Off. I love Mary and Paul, (My Birthday present from my sister this year was tickets to see them live at the BBC Good Food Show) but I'm in it for Mel and Sue.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year? I've only just started with it, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine. So much love for Holt!

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? The direction of the Marvel movies. I fully intend to finally get around to watching the Winter Soldier at some point, but I will live in denial of any films past that point. I'm not saying they are bad for telling those stories, I'm just not interested in going there.

Your fandom boyfriend of the year? Tony Kennedy from The Kennedys. (I CAN"T HELP IT. IT"S THE AWESOME DAD THING)

Your fandom girlfriend of the year? Jessica Fletcher. (Hannah & Rebecca have discovered Murder She Wrote, I have been watching a lot of it)

Your biggest squee moment of the year? OK It wasn't really mine, but it was just so cute it became mine. Hannah and Rebecca talking to their friend Frankie, (they are all nine) and discovering she was into Murder She Wrote too, and a bout of the three of them literally jumping up and down whilst holding each others hands and screaming to find someone else who liked it.

The most missed of your old fandoms? I miss how active I was in my old fandoms, and I miss the conversation I'd have with my friends in the fandoms - probably Buffy or Ninth Doctor Doctor Who.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Too many to count.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? Actually trying to participate in fandom again.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I never make resolutions at New Year. If I feel I need to change me or do something differently, I can't see waiting for a specific day will make me more likely to do it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Not super close. A few friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die? No, thank you.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Getting Tonsillitis whilst in Liverpool for a three day course with a nasty exam at the end of it wasn't exactly fun.

11. What was the best thing you bought? My coffee machine and grinder. Even if it's not a commercial machine. (When I win the lottery...)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Aside from the Tory Government etc etc, my well-it's-their-age-and-everybody-back-then-thought-like-that racist but otherwise lovely Volunteers, whom I'm not allowed to tackle on anything offensive/hurtful they say. :-(

22. Did you fall in love in 2015? Nope but I stayed in love.

28. What did you want and get?My own Riding Helmet. (So I don't have to borrow the grotty school ones)

29. What did you want and not get? Sleep, although this most mostly self-inflicted

31. What did you do on your birthday? I had my second day at my new job, and then Doug took me to the Felin Fach Griffin. I neeed to go back at some point.

34. What kept you sane? Doug. The Mountains

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

36. What political issue stirred you the most? The refugee crisis. (And on a micro-scale, corruption in the BBNPA planning office)

37. Who did you miss? [personal profile] sohotrightnow. Even though it's my fault I haven't spoken to her for ages.

38. Who was the best new person you met? My new boss.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015. The job can always get worse.

Why are there only two stories on Archive of our Own that have Pepper Potts and Donna Moss tagged in them? There is something wrong with the universe.

*Hi* I'm still alive, I've had a job the past two years that was meant to be 42 hours a week but has mostly worked out to 55/60 hours a week. Next week I start as Assistant Manager at a charity shop and my hours go down to 28 a week. I'm hoping I might actually be able to scrape together a few hours a weeks for things like fandom and crochet. We shall see...

I've been on a course for people interested in running their own business. (Which I will be posting about later as I wasn't expecting the trainer to read my feedback whilst I was still there) and I and the other participants wish to stay in contact. There's only twelve of us, so I don't need a heavy duty solution, but I want something that has similar functionality to Facebook Groups, isn't Facebook Groups and is free.

Any suggestions? It should preferrably but exceedingly easy to sign up to as there is a large range of tech saavy.

Any suggestions?

On the whole, I really enjoyed it. It was silly, and of no great depth, but it was fun, and I hope that it attracts some kind of fandom.

For the last couple of years, I've lost my fannish squee, but in the last couple of weeks it's come back with a vengeance. From having no TV shows I watch with any regularity, I'm completely and utterly in love with Sleepy Hollow, cautiously optimistic about Agents of Shield, amused by By Any Means, and now delighted with Atlantis.

I'm sure all of these shows will disappoint me, and break my heart, but for now it's nice to have my squee back.

OK, my son's friend just insulted my son by calling him Ed Milliband.

Calling him Gordon Brown wasn't apparently so much of an insult, but because "when Gordon Brown was trying to be the Prime Minister he knocked on lots of people's doors, and yesterday O knocked on my door."

Eleven year old boy logic.

OMG, Tim Loughton is being so obtuse. However Michael Bartlet from the Quakers is being awesome in the face of obtuseness.

Derek McAuley from the Unitarians is so nervous but is still being awesome.

(On a trivial note Jim Shannon is a ringer for Michael Fish)

I may be in Merthyr with Doug about to go and see The Hobbit. (I should mention the last film [not counting Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists at the tiny Booth Books Cinema] I saw in a proper cinema was the Star Trek Reboot.)

I fully expect to fall back into Tolkein fandom again.

My friend texted me to tell me about the Glitch news this morning. I've being playing since April last year, and recently my playing had got really heavy again.

I feel so sad for everyone at Tiny Speck that they had to see their baby fail in this way.

I think I'm going to spend every moment I can on there until it's gone.

Firstly, thank you so much! No matter what you write, the fact that you have written me fic in one of these fandoms? Means that I will love it no matter what.

Generally I'm good with most things and even things that I say that I don't like I have a couple of stories of that ilk that I absolutely love.

I love crossovers, women being awesome (and anything that rebalances the fact that the stories are always about the men), crack, humour, angst, gen, slash, het, femslash, threesomes, polyfic, behind the scenes, teams as family and common people fic.

I don't like rape and dub con, (although I'm up for clearly negotiated consent play) and I'm iffy on incest. I don't like unremitting doom although I quite like apocalyptic fic, which is probably not that helpful to you. ;-) And please no character bashing especially of female characters.

Anyway onto my fandoms.

Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor

I'm fairly confident you won't be familiar with this fandom, but do have a look at it because there is so much room to play here.

Spider is an iPhone/iPod/iPad game by Tiger Aspect where no one really knows what the plot is except the developers, and they have stated clearly that they're not going to tell us one way or the other. The best we can do it piece together the clues and make our own stories. All we know is it was terribly sad. The walkthrough here - Gamezebo Walkthrough should give you everything you need to know.

I love how detached the Spider is from the human drama, does she understand any of it? Maybe it's all meaningless to her, or maybe she understands all too well. Maybe she's seen it all before, or she saw something that we missed. Did BY go with CK on his collecting trips? Did they understand what was happening between their sons? How did L Stewart know the Bryces? Why did she marry R? (Did she marry R?) Did she love N? Who was she apart from another bone of contention between the brothers? Where was she by the time the spider started filling the house with cobwebs? I'm not wedded to any particular interpretation of the clues, so feel free to run wild.

Great British Bake Off RPF

I worship Mary. I adore Sue and Mel, and I want a Cathryn for my very own. Give me the GBBO team saving the world through baking or maybe crossover a fandom with the GBBO lot. (Please no fusions, it's the people and the set up I love)

Of this years competitors, I really didn't like Victoria or James, but I really loved Brendan, Ryan, John, Sarah Jane and Danny. (I love Danny, nearly as much as I love Cathryn) I love the way Mary and Paul work together, balancing and countering each other. But I think it's the way Sue and Mel bolster and encourage the competitors that make it for me. You can believe that everyone has become friends, and Sue and Mel really, really want everyone to do well.

"I can't serve Mary Berry green carpet!"

Snow White and the Huntsman

I want to know how Snow survived the years in the tower, I want to know how she survived the years after her coronation. I want to know more about Ravenna, when was the girl she was irrevocably corrupted? How did her power grow? SO MANY THINGS I WANT TO KNOW.

I'm happy with gen fic or shippy fic (Snow White/Huntsman or Snow White/Huntsman/William, so long as Snow is front and centre of the fic and interacts with other women)

Tell me any story you want I will be happy.

Olympic Opening Ceremony (2012)

I loved the opening ceremonies, so so much. I love their Britishness, the sly in-jokes that you really had to have lived through to get. (Poor Michael Fish, that fucking hurricane is going to be on his headstone)

I loved the shock of the change from the pastoral to the industrial, and the drama of the drummers. The Queen rules all. And lost phone girl and boy were totally adorable)

Meta, humour, crack whatever you want to go with, so long it celebrates the joy you're golden.

I don't really have anything else to add to my optional details, Britishness, eccentricity, joy and 100 foot Voldermorts being driven off be a squadron of Mary Poppins and the welfare state. All of these, none of these - have at it!

I suspect the sheer number of complaints that I suspect have flooded in over the last hours might have something to do with the promptness of the reply I received. (Fifteen minutes from sending my email)

As with everyone else I will be watching how this unfolds.

Well that was not a patch on the opening ceremony, but still enjoyable once the cringe-y parts were out of the way. (George Michael anyone, but god how I love Neil Tennant's voice)

But I just need to say, all the love in the world to Gary Barlow. I wonder if he could feel most of the audience wanting to reach out and give him a hug?

Roll on the Paralympics. (I've been more excited for them, given that I actually know someone taking part)

Sometimes we take our aprons off and eat at a table like a customer. Sometimes we eat on a step in the kitchen so we can carry on chatting to the others whilst they work. Today I'm listening to the river whilst I eat.

We've just started selling locally made Ice Creams in the Café, and they're so gorgeous.

We had our second order in yesterday - double our first one - and it's now taking up two shelves in the freezer. I was just finishing putting them away whe Fi came up.

Fi: You know, it would probably be a good idea to put the flavours in alphabetical order.
Me: They are in alphabetical order.
Fi: You scare me sometimes.
